Artsplan, the training and publications department of Artswork and in-house training provider for ENYAN (English National Youth Arts Network), is delivering the one day course ‘Using the Arts with Refugees and Asylum Seekers’ on 22nd July 08 at Paddington Arts, London. This course is aimed at organisations currently using or looking to use the arts with refugees and asylum seekers. This one-day training course has been developed in partnership with Greenwich and Lewisham Young People’s Theatre (GYPT) and provides a practical exploration of the role and issues involved in using the arts with refugees and asylum seekers, both English and non-English speaking. Participants will be able to sample a number of practical approaches that are accessible to young people who are not fluent in spoken English, beginning with drama or movement though video and visual arts may also be explored. The different ways these approaches may be adapted will also be explored, as well as some of the barriers and issues that may be encountered in developing this type of work. Artsplan is the largest provider of specialist youth arts training courses and publications in the UK and all training and publications are written and supported by experienced youth arts specialists, currently involved in direct project work with young people. This one-day training course explores the benefits of meaningful evaluation of youth arts projects. Beginning by addressing preconceptions around evaluation (constructive exercise or chore?) the course will progress to examine methodologies, structured approaches and case studies using a series of collaborative exercises and tutor led presentations. Informative and practical, this course will help you develop your own individual approach to creative evaluation and the confidence you need to engage with evaluating youth arts projects. The ‘Creative Facilitation’ course provides an introduction to a creative approach to group facilitation. It aims to encourage, develop and inspire those with responsibility to lead others through a facilitative process, be it for the purposes of team building, consultation, idea-generation or training. Throughout the day we will be using a number of different interactive exercises and games in order to illustrate content. We will also look at group dynamics, communication issues and different learning styles in order to explore how these might be of impact.
