  • Bank of England Tour

    15/07/2008

JCI London is invited to the Bank of England tour – a classic event! Do not miss this unique opportunity to see the inside of one of England’s most famous financial institutions; the Bank of England also known as the ‘Old Lady of Threadneedle Street.’ The Bank’s roles and functions have evolved and changed over its three-hundred year history. Since its foundation, it has been the Government’s banker and, since the late 18th century, it has been banker to the banking system more generally – the bankers’ bank. As well as providing banking services to its customers, the Bank of England manages the UK’s foreign exchange and gold reserves. The Bank has two core purposes – monetary stability and financial stability. The Bank is perhaps most visible to the general public through its banknotes and, more recently, its interest rate decisions. The Bank has had a monopoly on the issue of banknotes in England and Wales since the early 20th century. But it is only since 1997 that the Bank has had statutory responsibility for setting the UK’s official interest rate. The tour will take you through the main rooms of the Bank including where the Monetary Policy Committee make …

  • Public Speaking - Speak on your feet - Spontaneous Speech training

    11/09/2008

Having several days or weeks to prepare a presentation can be nerve-racking enough. But do you feel panic-stricken if you are called upon to speak in public at a moment’s notice with no preparation? This is not a “sit and listen” seminar but a highly interactive, fast-paced workshop. Each participant will make five-six presentations during the workshop and will receive feedback after every one. The workshop aims to help you to overcome fear of making impromptu speeches. It will focus on learning to think and speak on your feet, and being creative. You will learn and also practice an effective technique for quickly preparing a short speech. How often have you heard an spontaneous speaker give a faltering, unconvincing, or incoherent speech? In this workshop you will practice techniques that will help you to (1) overcome your fear, (2) think on your feet and (3) deliver confident and well-argued responses. David T Jones trained as a zoologist, and studies rainforest ecology. In 1996, while between research jobs, he found temporary work as a trainer. This developed into an enjoyable second career, with David now spending up to half his time writing and presenting seminars and training courses for public and …

  • Leadership Masterclass 4 - Image & The 21st Century Workplace (Men)

    17/09/2008

How poor image could destroy YOU! What image do YOU project in your place of work? Many people don’t realise, until it is too late, that their business is viewed in a negative light. No matter how hard they work, and how many successes they achieve, they are being held back by a key issue: PERCEPTION! The reality of the work you do and it’s perception by other are rarely the same thing. Many people feel that their work ought to be recognised and understood by the many, but in reality it is only understood by a few. Perception is critical because unless we communicate in the language of our target audience (and this audience could be several different ones in the same day!) we take the immense risk that they fail to understand, and therefore cannot advocate, the work that we do. The impression we make on others, that initial image that they keep in their minds, long after the first meeting, is something that you have a direct opportunity to manipulate and control. This unique event will give you the tools, techniques, and strategies to create a positive impression, lead, and succeed within your workplace and beyond. The …
