  • Enterprise Days - Wilsthorpe School

    15/11/2007

    On Thursday 15th November we are going into Djanogly academy and teaching a Business Game, called YOMP, to a group of 7 15 year old school students. This will act as a good ice breaker and lead into the Belbin Tests workshops the following day. These will be used to reflect on the previous team game and show each of their individual roles. On Monday 19th November we will be returning to the school to hold a CV skills workshop to help to teach the students how to present and sell themselves to potential recruiters, which will lead into the final workshop on Interview Skills on the Thursday.

  • Creating Respect

    This one day course explores cultural diversity within Britain and suggests ways in which the arts can be used to help young people understand, value and respect diversity within their own communities. Starting with an exploration of the term Cultural Diversity the course will progress to identify the nature of prejudice and the factors influencing young people’s perceptions in today’s society. Identifying and exploring the main cultural groups living within the UK the course will suggest ways to research and identify diverse cultures within your own community, closing with an exploration of how youth arts projects can help build bridges of understanding. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance upon successful completion of the course and a wealth of practical resources.   • Creative Facilitation

    This one-day course provides an introduction to a creative approach to group facilitation. It aims to encourage, develop and inspire those with responsibility to lead others through a facilitative process, be it for the purposes of team building, consultation, idea-generation or training. Throughout the day we will be using a number of different interactive exercises and games in order to illustrate content. We will also look at group dynamics, communication issues and different learning styles in order to explore how these might be of impact. This course seeks to stimulate your imagination and send you home with ideas and examples of how to develop a creative approach to group facilitation within your own context.     We are being encouraged to work together with other organisations that have different and sometimes complementary agendas. How can youth arts projects help to knit these partnerships together? This one day workshop shares practical techniques and approaches to working in partnerships with other organisations and individuals in order to achieve a successful youth arts project or event. Looking at the benefits of where, when and how to find the right partner, this session will offer a simple structure for both working in and developing your partnerships. Using an interactive approach to explore issues such as defining roles and setting realistic targets, this course will also cover troubleshooting for problem areas, including when and how to bow out gracefully if partnerships aren’t working. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance upon successful completion of the course and a wealth of practical resources.     This one day course is essential training for anyone working within youth arts, but especially for those who are working directly with young people at risk. Undertaking practical workshops and activities with young people requires a broad understanding of youth culture and the issues surrounding young people’s lives. There are added pressures of working directly with young people who are already or may be at risk of social exclusion, one of which is having the skills, knowledge and experience to be able to manage their behaviour effectively and responsively. This course will discuss the practical aspects of behaviour management, look specifically at health and safety issues and risk assessment and will aim to promote a style of engaging with young people that encourages positive behaviour.
