Be More Dinner- Inspiring Women in Social Business

Join us to hear the inspirational stories of three leading women who are making a real difference to tackling social and environmental issues.

Guest speakers include:-

Val Corbett, Associate Director, Training for Life, a social enterprise charity. - Born in Cape Town, Val Corbett has had a career in the media spanning national newspapers, magazines and television. She was founder director of an independent TV production company producing several programmes for BBC TV and Channel 4. After that, she wrote six novels and now gains far more satisfaction from her job with Training For Life with a specific brief of marketing and promoting their Michelin-recommended training restaurant, the Hoxton Apprentice.

Jessica Shortall, Co-Founder of Catalyst Strategy Advisers, a consultancy business for social business clients. - Jessica has worked for the Peace Corps in Uzbekistan, to conduct community development projects and teach English and she is the co-founder and co-director of The Campus Kitchens Project, a U.S.-based social venture with a network of integrated leadership development, nutrition education, job training, food rescue, and hunger relief programs run by university students. The organisation has been franchised and is now active in more than ten U.S. cities.

Jobeda Ali, Founder of Fair Knowledge, bringing fresh voices and new perspectives to media audiences. She has been involved in enterprising social inclusion/economic develop projects with young people for ten years. Jobeda was a board member of the Learning Skills Council and has managed projects for Tower Hamlets College, Cambridge University and the Department for Education and Skills. She has also been working independently within the broadcast industry for 3 years as a producer and presenter with both the BBC and Channel 4.

Striding Out and the Hoxton Apprentice are hosting a dinner to celebrate Women’s Enterprise Day. The event aims to celebrate inspiring and successful women working in social business. We’ve invited a real mix of women; some with inspirational stories and others who are looking for inspiration. It’s a chance to meet some amazing women, and to share your ideas, challenges and experiences in a chilled out environment. Plus, it’s the perfect excuse to leave work on time!
