Claire Morley-Jones is Chair of the IoD Young Directors Forum in Yorkshire and Humber and also the Managing Director of 2 hr businesses, hr180 and hr828.

hr180 is an HR consultancy delivering positive bottom line improvements through the better engagement, utilisation and productivity of staff. hr828, on the other hand is an HR advice and support service for SME’s, offering immediate telephone and e-mail support for those with staffing challenges.

Claire is passionate about development and through the IoD leads a committed group of individuals who provide leadership development, peer support and networking opportunities to the emerging leaders of Yorkshire.

  • What makes your network different or special?

    We have the backing and support of the Institute of Directors - a renowed membership organisation that has strict membership criteria and engages with the UK’s largest group of entrepreneurs and Directors.

    We can positively make a difference to this wonderful organisation, whilst developing ourselves and each other.

  • Why is getting connected important to make things happen?

    If you are not connected you have no useful relationships, you have no relevent information and you have no way of disseminating information. I have not yet found anyone who has succeeded at doing whatever it was they wanted without the help and support of others along the way!

  • What are your top tips for hosting a great networking event?

    1)Engage with your audience - do or give them something they want 2)Choose a great venue - one that will entice people. We often use Askham Grange Open Prison - Why? People want to say they spent the night in the cells! 3)Be a fantastic host - create opportunities and introductions for others 4)Be constantly alert to all the possibilities that are out there 5)Don’t always follow the tried and tested method 6)Try and help others whenever you can and attend their events too!

  • What are your best networking links / resources?

    FORWAD LADIES! Without a shadow of a doubt! However, having said that Yorkshire is filled with great events and wonderful people so there is no shortage of choice.

  • What is the best connection you have made or received?

    Received - Sir Digby-Jones! Our Regional Chairman introduced me to Sir Digby-Jones who called me at home on a Saturday to arrange speaking at the Yorkshire Young Directors Conference in May 2007! I thought I was soooooo important! Made - Connecting all our YD’s with an organisation that truly understands what they want and are looking for.
