I have over a decade worth of experience working in the private sector with particular emphasis on managing retail operations for a big blue chip retailer. I have also setup my own businesses and successfully sold them on before I got involved with the Grid. Having caught the entrepreneurial bug whilst running my own businesses I felt I wanted to do something more than just make money, and try and make a difference and make a positive contribution to the disadvantaged people in deprived/regeneration areas.

I am passionate about enterprise and enjoy engaging with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and am currently engaged in creating an entrepreneurial buzz in Bradford helping entrepreneurs from various backgrounds to achieve their maximum potential.

Q&A
  • What makes your network different or special?

We are publically funded by the LEGI programme but we run our networking or business club like a private enterprise. So you could say we are an entrepreneurial organization helping potential entrepreneurs to connect.

  • Why are your tips for being an effective networker?

Networking is about establishing and developing relationships you need to remember that a networking event is just that, an opportunity to network. It’s not an opportunity to sell your product or service.

  • What are your best networking links / resources?

We have setup the Business Networking Lunch at the Grid centre which we hold every fortnight. We then connect everybody on our quarterly events which are held in the evenings for all our members. We have used B2B the breakfast networking club as well as the BNI club not forgetting of course the make your mark website.

  • What is the best connection you have made or received?

I met my mentor through the initial networking event held by Calderdale college when I was running my business. He gave me some invaluable advice on how to develop my business.

  • What is your best advice for a budding entrepreneur?

Do your research and make sure the enterprise you are going into is something you enjoy doing. Then go for it, surround yourself with positive people because attitude can be contagious. Is yours worth catching?
