Lucy Byrne runs dot-art, a Liverpool based organisation which helps local artists to promote and sell their work. Businesses and individuals who wish to buy, rent or commission art can do so through their Castle Street gallery and website. Dot-art works with nearly 100 Merseyside based artists and a wide range of customers, and holds a variety of events for both artists and clients throughout the year

Q&A
  • What are your top tips for making great connections?

Never assume that someone is not a great connection, just because you cannot immediately see how you could help each other. Talk to everyone! I have also found that by hosting regular networking events at the gallery, I widen the connections I make or receive.

  • Why is getting connected important to make things happen?

You never know who you might meet, when they might be able to help you or vice versa. The bigger and more diverse your contact sphere, the more likely you are to be able to solve any problem or challenge you might encounter.

  • What tools or resources do you use to keep in touch with people?

Always collect business cards, and ask if people would like to be put on your mailing list. You can then invite them to any events you are holding, or that you feel they might be interested in. Keep people in mind- if you see a piece of information or an event that might help someone, drop them an email. You never know when they might return the favour!

  • What makes your network different or special?

Through Eat Art and the other networking events we hold at the gallery, it widens Dot-Art’s network from artists and art lovers to the mainstream public. The whole ethos of Dot Art is to be inclusive and our network reflects this, by looking at ways to broaden our profile locally.
