Q&A
  • Why do you think networking is important?

Networking is great, its a leveler and allows you to bypass dead ends with ease. When ever you have a idea or a problem, its good to share it, bounce it about get some feedback from your network. Its free collective knowledge and we all participate in it.

  • What is the best connection you have made or received?

I couldn’t possibly rank my connections. Some connections have allowed me to arrange huge social events . Some have allowed me to recommend the right person for a position. People do ask how I arrange dinners with great speakers, I always say anyone could do it if they wanted to.

  • What are your top tips for effective networking?

Don’t go out and network. Go out, learn, listen and talk. Just because someone isn’t in the same business as you does not mean their not worth talking to. Some of the best conversations I have had are from people nothing to do with what I do.

  • What tools or resources do you use to keep in touch with people?

Social networking tools like Linked in and Facebook are good for keeping and staying in touch with contacts. Social media sites like Flickr, Upcoming, etc are much better for meeting new contacts. Nothing beats real face to face contact so I suggest going out and meeting people at social events. If there isn’t one, set one up.
