Alexia is Membership Officer at Social Enterprise Coalition, the national voice for social enterprise. As such she is in contact with many people across the UK involved in social enterprise, either as entrepreneurs or as people offering support for the growth of social enterprise. One of Alexia’s regular tasks is to connect people working within the sector.

Q&A
  • Why is getting connected important to make things happen?

People are a great resource for information and inspiration and those things allow ideas to take shape. Once those ideas have been formed, it is useful to know who can help turn them into a reality.

  • What is the best connection you have made or received?

My role is to network, gather and disseminate information. So all of the people I meet are excellent for making connections as I am then able to connect them to one another.

  • What are your top tips for making great connections?

Remember that the people you want to connect to are human! Don’t be overwhelmed by the fact that they may be ‘important’ and remember that you have a lot to offer them too.

  • What tools or resources do you use to keep in touch with people?

I use the internet a lot, as well as email and news bulletins. Research is a great way to keep pace of what people are doing. Also email and blogs are a great way to efficiently post poignant pieces of information to people. But nothing can replace personal contact and so I visit people whenever I can.
