Q&A
  • What makes your network different or special?

Stellar Network is unique in that it appeals to a diverse group of people - we aim to support both emerging and established creatives in Film, TV and Theatre, and promote cross pollination between these wherever possible. We are also unique in that we exist in both the UK and New York, where the organisation was first launched.

  • Why did you start up your network?

Stellar was founded by two British expats, Nicola Behrman and Hannah Minghella, who were living in New York, and felt there was a real deficit in opportunities to meet, share war stories and successes, and ultimately collaborate with like minded creative professionals. In fields where people hold their cards close to their chests, Stellar’s premise is very much that generosity with contacts and experiences breeds stronger, more inspired creative industries - which in turns benefits us all.

  • What is the best connection you have made or received?

At one of our workshops for new writing, Open Page, writer Liz Heery’s theatre two-hander, Salsa, was picked up by ILW Productions, and in turn by major theatre producer Bill Kenwright. It’s now being workshopped in London, and will be launched in the coming months Off-Broadway in New York.

  • What are your top tips for hosting a great networking event?

I think people network best when they have recently shared an experience - these can then serve as a launching point for discussions that gradually become more targeted and personal. Some of our best networking moments have occurred following screenings, panel discussions, or workshops. Members and guests can relax with a glass of wine and learn about each other as there is less perceived pressure.

  • What are your best networking links / resources?

Our best links are the other like minded organisations we work with - a network of networks if you will! People like Raindance, New Producers Alliance, Directors’ Guild of Great Britain, Bird’s Eye View are all fantastic alliances, and chock full of creatives interested in actively furthering themselves actively - the most important element in any networking.
