RAPPORT!

My name is David McQueen. If I was to sum up what I am known best for is helping people to leverage themselves for career success. As a professional speaker, faciliator and coach I work with young people in schools and colleges. I also coach and train adults who wish to improve their presentation skills, find work, get promotions or develop their own business. From using traditional methods to embracing social media tools my focus is to get people to enjoy their career journeys. Working with organisations as well as individuals.

I find the best way to do that is also be authentic in the way I run my business and manage my own career which to be frank has been exciting but filled with its own challenges.

On a personal level I am happily married with two energetic, creative and sometimes challenging daughters. I love music, poetry, philosophy and the way people interact across different cultures. I am a firm believer that our careers are intrinsically linked to our happiness and contentment, and as they take up so much of our personal time why not work on getting it right.

Q&A
  • What makes your network different or special?

My network spans a number of professionals in business, education, entertainment and the community.Diversity and quality :)

  • Why did you start up your network?

I started up my network as a means of connecting professionals across all industries.

  • What is the best connection you have made or received?

    1) One client raised substantial investment in a company, and 2) I was able to get to a lobbyist in Parliament on an issue very close to them.

  • What are your top tips for hosting a great networking event?

    Top tips are to:

Be an approachable host. All guests should know you. Promote it early. Contact key connectors by phone and email. Have a good venue and link key people at that event.

  • What are your best networking links / resources?

They are many but here goes.

    1) My own Nokia phone (awesome address book) 2) LinkedIN 3) Plaxo 4) Meetup.com

I don’t use many of the social networks anymore as I find them a bit noisy, plus it is much easier to send a personal email or make a call.
