Jonathan English is co-founder of Skeleton Productions - a digital marketing company. He is a specialist at creating multimedia content and is currently producing online video clips for Sport England, Cambridge University, Nottingham University and a number of other corporate clients. Jonathan also developed the popular “The Big Uni Reunion”. It all started by bringing together Nottingham graduates who had moved to London – the events were designed to re-create nostalgic student nights out. Now they run regular reunions throughout the year in London for graduates from different universities across the UK.

  • What are your top tips for being an effective networker?

    My top tips for being an effective networker are:

    Don’t be afraid they are only human – don’t let that fear of talking to someone you don’t know stop you from saying hello.

    Seize the moment they could be your perfect business partner – Make sure you talk to even the most random people in the most random situations. Trust your instincts.

    Listen carefully – Show them that you are interested in them by listening and building rapport.

    Your sound bite - Be able to succinctly say what it is you do (develop a number of these statements so you can use the most appropriate one for your audience)

  • What is your best advice to a budding entrepreneur?

    Don’t let assumptions stop you from doing something. If you find yourself assuming something won’t work make sure you get the facts. We often put so many mental barriers in the way of taking action that nothing happens.

    Also make sure you identify your key business areas, these are the ones essential to your business, they could be your staff, a business process or your sales funnel. Make sure these key areas are always looked after to prevent your business going off the rails.
