Generation 2 Generation

Alex currently combines running Generation 2 Generation with his law studies at the College of Law.

Alex read History at the London School of Economics, where he was actively involved in extra-curricular activities like debate, journalism and student politics. Notably, he was the President of the Question Time Society - a debate forum based on the BBC programme - for two years and organised events on topics such as Blair’s legacy, the City of London and Football corruption featuring personalities such as Jon Snow (Channel 4 News presenter), Vincent Cable (former acting Lib Dem leader) and Charles Moore (former editor, Daily Telegraph). Alex won the LSE’s Gold Award for outstanding achievement with student society work in 2007.

His involvement with activities such as Question Time inspired Alex to found Generation 2 Generation after graduating from university with the intention that young people both at school, university and in the world of work could meet high profile personalities and grow personally and professionally through such encounters.

Whenever he gets free time from G2G work and his law studies, Alex enjoys playing and watching sport, cooking and photography.

Q&A
  • What are your tips on being an effective networker?

    1) TO BE AN INTERESTING PERSON, YOU MUST BE AN INTERESTED PERSON One of my school teachers always said this. Take an interest in whom are speaking to, find out more about them and what they enjoy. That way, they will take more of an interest in you.

    2) DON’T INSULATE YOURSELF AMONGST PEOPLE WHOM YOU ALREADY KNOW The main point of many functions and networking events is to meet new people and make new contacts. If you only socialise with people whom you already know, you are restricting your chances of meeting new people.

    2) CONFIDENCE: Don’t be shy to introduce yourself to new people at functions and networking events. Often other people want to meet and talk to those they don’t know, but are waiting for someone to make a move. Take the initiative!

  • What is your advice for a young entrepreneur?

Well, I’m learning about business as a young entrepreneur myself as one of the country’s growing numbers of Unipreneurs. My tips so far would be to enjoy taking on new challenges, stretch one’s potential, seize the initiative and, above all, remember to have fun!!
